Today, inventory, time and handling are money. Most components that are purchased in the marketplace today involve multiple processes. The more processes that are involved typically involve longer lead times and more dollars spent. The optimum situation is to be able to purchase a completely finished component. And in many instances this finished part needs to be assembled and packaged. The more processes that a contract manufacturer can perform, the more value they can bring to their customer.
